i obscenity in the milk of thy republic

damn thanks all for your comments. i am all warm and gushy now. ron has got me on a short leash this trip back in town and i only have about 2 hours to spare before we head out again. not much to report anyway. the salmon fishing was as slow as last time but the waether was shittier so we had some pretty miserable days. i plowed through Don Dellilo's novel Mao II and it was good but not even close to as cynically witty as White Noise. As there are no used book store in town and i can't keep donating the new books i buy at the book store I have decided to start mailing them off to you guys. sorry ben but i all ready got rid of moby dick. it was just to big to hang on to with my ever growing library. anyway i just started on leaves of grass and the damn introduction is longer than whitman's poems put together, which i haven't even got to yet, but i am getting psyched about about them. i pretty much have to run right now. i am not sure when i will ever get photos posted again as Sitka's public computer infrastructure is rather short on modern equipment, but maybe if i get a few days in town next time i will figure it out. i wish the best to all of you wherever you are and if you want a book send me your local address to my email account.

I guess the point is to write about something intersting. I've been trying to get Grandma (Aunt) Jo to read my blog for years.

I love hearing about your adventures. I'm really quite jealous. Keep writing...for those of us that are stuck in an office with no windows.

It was nice talking to you last night. I enjoyed reminiscing about our European adventure. We should do that again, except a different continent next time.

i'm high, and want cookies, but there is no one to go to the corner store for me. so instead i lie here and pout with the greasy after taste of quesadilla as my only company.

Despite the painful description of your hands, the trip sounds beyond wonderful! We enjoyed our trip to Canada, and kept wishing we'd bump into you along the way...Skip had his new teacher orientation yesterday..who would've thunk it? Hugs, Kate :)

don't worry about shipping moby dick my way. i had picked up a $5 copy awhile ago. this summer i've discovered the joy of finding $2 paperbacks at used bookstores so i have no end of books to read. if you get a chance and want to take down some more big(pynchon-esque) books i'd have to reccomend william gaddis' JR. tough to get over the hump of his style but once you get into it it's totally great. his other books are also very good. i've had trouble getting into whitman in past; i hope it goes well for you and that the fishing/weather are good.

Hello. We were 5 minutes from our destination of Petersburg, packed and ready to get off of the ferry, when we found they announced that we were turning around. The ship lost an engine. 50 hours later we are now in Ketchican. I emailed you but just wanted to make sure you received the message. We will be stopping in Sitka and would love to see you. Check your email for the info. D and J

robin,
song to my self is one of my favorite bits of writing that i've ever read... i hope you're loved it... dude the my space photos are off the coat hanger. i missed your call again. and the last time we spoke philip glass's opening band made it difficult to hear you. in consolation to the jealousy that you expressed on the phone: about 10 minute after mr. glass came on an enormous storm came through and ended the whole affair with two thousand soaked new yorker running in all directions with while lightning hit near by trees. hope to talk to you soon.

alex
